CR Cattle Company is a third generation a cow-calf operation in the heartland of Central Nebraska where 600 red and black Angus cattle are cared for 365 days a year. Starting March 1, cows and first calf-heifers calve on winter range. In May, the calves are given necessary shots and branded for identification. The pairs thrive on summer grass and graze acres of wide open pastures. Prior to the summer breeding season, bulls are carefully chosen based on calving ease and composition. Meanwhile alfalfa, cane, and grass hay are baled over the summer to prepare for supplemental winter feed. On average 500 calves are gathered in mid-November and sold for the commercial beef market or high quality replacement heifers. About 65 heifer calves are reserved from the herd each fall for replacement breeding, and the process begins again.
